Fact Sheet About Cervical Dystonia (CD), the CD Research Awareness Initiative, & a Clinical Trial Comparing Two Formulas of Botox®
3/24/08 - For Spasmodic Torticollis/Dystonia, Inc.
About Cervical Dystonia: Cervical dystonia (CD) is a neurological condition characterized
by involuntary abnormal movements and/or postures of the head
and neck. CD patients experience pain that can become severe and can impact simple pursuits including their ability to sit, stand, walk, and eat. These patients often feel self-conscious in social situations because of the obvious distortion of their head’s position.
There are approximately 125,000 cases of Cervical Dystonia in North America. Due to the low incidence of CD, this condition can be confused with Parkinson’s, Wry Neck, Cerebral Palsy, and Muscular Dystrophy, resulting in misdiagnosis.
CD Research Awareness Initiative: Our outreach effort seeks to reach those physicians and other healthcare professionals who might have limited exposure to CD, and to facilitate diagnosis and offer an option for their patients
who otherwise would not seek or be able to afford treatment.
About the Study: Phase 2 study to evaluate the Botulinum Toxin Type A for the treatment of CD.
Enrollment: 200 patients at approximately 40 investigational sites.
Patient Criteria: Study population will consist of male and female patients between the ages of 18 and 75 years of age who have never received treatment with botulinum toxin or any serotype for any indication.
Length: The duration of the study will be variable for each patient – between 50 and 60 weeks – depending on the timing of re-treatment.
