Cycle for Dystonia
"What is Dystonia?" "I've never heard of it." "How do you spell that?" These are the responses I hear when I tell people I have Cervical Dystonia. I was diagnosed with Cervical Dystonia in 1979 and after a year went into remission. I had completely forgotten about it until twenty-four years later; in 2003, it came back with a vengeance and I was devastated. After two years of trying different medications I started on Botox injections and responded well. After five years on Botox, I am able to live a normal life and am thankful for the second chance I've been given.
During my twenty-four year remission, I accomplished a great deal as a Navy wife and mother. I was also able to get involved in my passion - cycling. Over the last sixteen years, I've had the opportunity to cycle all over the United States.
My most memorable trip was in the summer of 2000 when I cycled across America from California to Virginia. I had the privilege to meet many wonderful people and see our beautiful country. Along the way, people would ask if I was riding for a cause. At that time I wasn't, but, now with a new bike and a new mission, I am ready to embark on another cross-country trip from Seattle to New York City. This time I will be riding for Dystonia awareness.
CYCLE FOR DYSTONIA will kick off from Seattle tentatively the last week of June, 2010, and end in New York City in early September. I plan on riding across the northern part of the United States with a support van. Along the way I would like to stop and visit as many Dystonia organizations and support groups as possible. I will be blogging everyday so those who are interested can follow the tour. I would also like to hand out any pamphlets or information to people along the way. My goal is to inform people and give hope to all those suffering with Dystonia.
I am a member of ST Dystonia and proud of all of the hard work you do. I invite any ideas or input you have to help make CYCLE FOR DYSTONIA reach as many people as possible. My route will take me through your area this summer. I don't have an exact date yet, but I would love to drop in and meet you. With your permission, I would like to add your ST Dystonia link to my blog so people can access it for information or for donations. I believe one person with a passion for a cause can make a difference in this world. My passion is CYCLE FOR DYSTONIA, my cause Dystonia awareness.

(Ed. Note: How about it everyone...can we help Kathy? Keep up-to-date on what she’s doing through her daily blogs from her computer, and, if you live along the way would you notify your local newspapers? Would you go out to the highway, maybe with cookies and water, and say "Hi", maybe invite her to your house, etc.Anything to help would be great. If you wish to pledge a penny, a nickel, dime, or even more, that would be great.
Just send your pledge to ST/Dystonia.
Let’s all CYCLE FOR DYSTONIA.
